Smashing Katie

I got to know about Smashing Katie from my friend Lesley, Blog Queen, who runs several blogs including, among others, The Debris Field and The Totally Girlie Blog. Smashing Katie comes to us by way of The Girlie Blog (where I'm pleased to say I'm a co-contributor.) Smashing Katie has its own twist on vintage type items. Here's a bit about the inspiration for Smashing Katie from the site:
We understand the roller coaster of emotions one goes through during a breakup. We understand that breakups happen for various reasons. We understand that sometimes the decision is one-sided, mutual, or for those special breakups, there is a third party involved that "helped" in the process. Smashing Katie spawned from such a breakup where a real Katie was the inspiration.

You can read more on the site in the "about us" section.

Halloween!

I know, it's not Halloween yet. It's not even October yet. But Fall is in the air, and the days are crisp. The lights are out, at least mine are; I have an icicle style string I use in the Fall; the lights are orange that fade to purple and back again. Very pretty. There are so many wonderful vintage Halloween images -- I thought I'd get started early and just post ones as I find them.

Coffee Makers

I love coffee makers; the vintage, old fashioned kind, not the Mr. Coffees and the like of today. Something very pleasing of the round shapes, the Air Stream type look of many of the coffee makers. My favorite kitchen object is my simple little espresso pot. Nothing special or fancy, but I love the simplicity and the great coffee (and of course it depends on the beans you use) it makes. And I love the little espresso cups too. And just for fun and silliness, some goofy vintage type coffee signs.

Star of David on the label on this bottle of absinthe. I found the image on a lovely blog called Vintage Postcards.
